Impressed with Wax: Basic Encaustic Techniques
~ 5 Hour Class
Explore the world of encaustic painting and discover a lost art that has captivated painters for over 2000 years. Encaustic means to “burn or heat” and comes from the Greek, enkaustikos. During this 5 hour class you will learn the basics of encaustic painting, including history, safety, equipment, building smooth and textured surfaces, photo transfer, carving and incising, layering, and collage. Demonstration of techniques will be followed by practice and you will leave at the end of the day with many examples of your own work. Josie's style of teaching is relaxed, fun and non-judgmental.
~$200 per student includes five hours of instruction, use of equipment and all supplies.
Mark Making on Paper
~ 5 Hour Class
In the morning session you will create interesting images on tissue paper using rusted objects. Alcohol inks on Yupo paper, carbon paper and gold foil will be introduced. In the afternoon you will use this paper as collage elements, adding wax and pigment to create your one-of-a-kind encaustic paintings. Bring 3 or 4 cradled wood panels no larger than 12 inches. Most supplies are included and additional supply list will be provided at time of registration.

Encaustic Assemblage
~ 4 Hour Class
Assemblage is a gathering of objects, often placed together to make an art piece. In this fun class you will use found objects, three dimensional collage elements and wax to make an encaustic assemblage or sculpture that is your unique design. 4 hours of instruction including some supplies. –$185. Supply list will be provided at registration.
Encaustic Practice Sessions
Do you have an idea brewing or a project you want to refine and finish? Work on your own project in my studio where you will receive guided mentorship and individual attention in a supportive environment. Equipment, wax, pigment and tools available for you to use.
~$45 per hour.
